What should you consider when buying an air conditioning unit?

As the summers have begun and the sun’s sweltering heat is making things hard, there is a need for an efficient air conditioning system. Having an AC at your place has become critical as the heat makes people drained and tired. The discomfort prevents them from working up to their full potential and affects their life. Also, excessive sweating in the heat causes dehydration and makes individuals cranky. If all this is making you think of investing in an air conditioning system, then here are a few things that you must consider before making the purchase. Have a look!

Cost:

Depending on the type of air conditioning unit you want to get to cool your indoors, the costs can differ. They can vary from a few thousand, which can be a lot for several people. The central AC cost is much higher than that of portable air conditioners. However, unless you know the specific AC unit you will bring home, you cannot estimate the actual costs.

BTU:

It refers to the amount of energy your AC unit utilizes for removing heat from your home. To decide how much BTU you need for cooling your place, you should know the space you would need to chill. For this, you must measure the square footage of the area using tape. Remember, if your room is not a perfect square, you must also account for the entrances, nooks, and crannies.

Controls:

Another thing you need to consider when getting an AC for your home is the type of control you want to use. So, the central air conditioner connects with the thermostat, and once you have set the ideal temperature, it can be left alone to function independently. While on the other hand, units like portable air conditioners do not respond automatically and need to be monitored by hand.

Plug Type:

Since the air conditioning units use a lot of power, they are not compatible with standard wall sockets. While numerous portable and window units need the standard 120 voltage plug, larger units use 240 or 250 volts plug that needs unique outlets. For this, you will have to call an electrician and have him install an outlet with a dedicated circuit. So, before deciding which air conditioner you will be getting, check the plug to see if it looks like the large or standard plug.

SEER and EER ratings:

Every air conditioning unit has a SEER and EER rating determined by dividing the cooling output by the energy input. The difference between the two is that the prior is calculated at 95 degrees F providing an idea of your AC’s efficiency during summers, while the other is based on temperature from different times of the year. Generally, air conditioners list both.

Where to Shop:

Once you have determined the type of AC you need for cooling your home, the next thing you have to consider is the place from where you want to shop for your AC. You can either get one online or shop from a physical store.

So, these are a few things that you need to consider when getting an air conditioner for your home.
